In Kinshasa, many alleys are too narrow for a truck. VIPRO's pre-collection starts from that fact: go and get the waste where it is, with suitable vehicles and people who are paid to do it.
Drop-off points near you
The programme plans drop-off points in every neighbourhood. People bring their sorted materials there: organic on one side, plastic on the other, the rest apart. Collectors on tricycles and motorbikes also go through the alleys to pick up bags.
Paid by the kilo, after weighing
Every collector is paid by weight. A VIPRO agent weighs the waste, and no money moves before that weighing. Payment goes through an approved mobile money operator, and an SMS receipt follows every payment.
To be paid, you need to be 18 or over and have a verified account.
With the people who already collect
Independent collectors, associations and small businesses already do this work in the communes. The programme builds on them: it plans equipment, buyers for every material and regular pay.
